We all want the absolute best results every time we start something.

Whether we are working at achieving a simple task to tackling a large project, we all have the best intentions and an expectation that we will achieve what we set out to.

We also are well aware (or at least we should be) that not everything goes exactly as we would hope or plan.

So how do we stack the odds in our favor?

What steps can we take each time we start something that will improve our chances of following through and achieving our objective?

Follow these steps for each item on your To-do list or project list and you will increase your chances tenfold every time.

Write a plan

The best way to guarantee you achieve the results your after is write out your plan.

This may not be an extremely detailed list but should be a step by step list to achieve the results you are looking for.

Another way to explain it is to “Define” the results you want.

Review Your Plan

Before you carry out a plan, to make sure that it is written well and it is going to produce the results you want to achieve, you should review it at least twice.

Sometimes it’s even best if you sleep on it – review the next day.

You’ll be surprised how many other things will surface that you didn’t think of before.

Check if there is anything you missed and make any necessary adjustments along the way.

Anticipate Challenges

Even if you think that you have well written plan, you should not assume that everything will go just perfectly.

You have to learn how to anticipate potential problems or as I like to call them – Opportunities.

If you anticipate where things could go wrong and think about alternatives before they happen it will be easier for you to make any needed adjustments to the plan along the way.

WARNING – don’t spend too much time thinking of EVERYTHING that can go wrong – this should be a brief exercise.

Think positive

To achieve positive results, with anything, you have to think positive.

You have to think that everything is going to be all right, and they will.

I know this sounds a little naïve but as we know “We are snared by the words from our mouth.”

If you speak negative thoughts about the project you are more likely to call those negative things into being, so think and speak positively about the outcome and you’re more likely to achieve what you set out to.

NOW START!

Yep, this is the step most of us avoid or don’t actually get to.

Nothing happens until you start.

Don’t worry if all the steps will happen in the order you put them down – be flexible but keep the end result top of mind.

What To Do When Things Go Wrong ( and they always will)

Sometimes, even if you do all the right things, you will not get the results you are looking for.

You formulate what was supposed to be a fail-proof plan, but what you find out in the end is that there is no such thing.

You just can’t control everything.

When they do, and they sometimes will if you have anticipated well you will be prepared to handle whatever comes up.

Just remember mistakes or failures are events not a person.

Work hard to address what you can, have a plan B and/or a plan C but work, plan and think positively that you will accomplish all that you set out to.

You will find that you will begin to WIN a lot more than not.
